Externship Update

It has been a little over a month since I started my externship! I have learned so much in the last 5 weeks and I'm excited to learn so much more. I really hope I get hired at my externship site. They have been hinting at hiring me and a few things have been said but nothing official has been said yet. If I don't get hired there I'm still thankful for the opportunity and am sure I'll get hired somewhere in the area. Since the externship started I have progressed more than I thought I would. Things I didn't think I'd be doing right now but am: *sending out samples for results *doing some callbacks to see how patients are doing *taking a client and patient to a room and then getting a history and TPR on my own *drawing blood *monitoring in patients and patients coming out of surgery I still have more ways to go but I am really proud of all my accomplishments so far. I will be publishing an official post once I'm done with my results but I just wanted

Securing My Veterinary Assistant Externship Within 3 Days

Yay! I secured my externship! I'm so excited to have been able to secure one so soon and so thankful. In this post I'm going to be talking about what I did during the process, including the externship packets I made for the veterinary clinics. First: Make a list of the veterinary clinics you would like to work at in your area. Find out their credentials and what services they offer. Find out who the medical director is at every site and make sure to double and triple check . I checked on the clinic's website, with what is listed on the BBB, and I even checked facebook! At one site I still had the wrong doctor's name even after triple checking.  Prepare your cover letter. Make sure to address the letter to the doctor you will be talking to . Also, triple check your spelling and grammatical errors and make sure to have at least two other people check them as well! I had two people check mine after I triple checked it and I still found a mistake.  Updat

Finishing School, Yard Work, and Getting Back Into Running

I'm hoping to get back into the weekly recaps now that I have finished the academic portion of my schooling. Yes, that's right! I've finished the academic portion of my studies and now it's just time for my clinical studies! Last week I finished my last exam and this past week I've been updating my resume, making cover letters, getting paperwork together, and going into the veterinary hospitals and clinics in my area. So I figured what great way to celebrate this achievement by sitting down with a cup of coffee and writing a little blog post. Let's take this post back to last Monday, the 14th of August. Monday was a pretty great day considering it is when I took my final exam! I got a 96%. Even though I got one question wrong and could prove that I answered correctly with my textbook I'm still pretty happy with my grade. I also uploaded a new vlog on my youtube channel of my previous week while eating breakfast outside with the kitti

Paragard: 1 Month Review

Let me start this post off by saying that I thought it was going to be a negative one up until a week ago. The first three weeks were extremely painful but I finally found a remedy for it (amazing, by the way) but we'll get to that later. What is the Paragard? For those who don't know the Paragard is a non-hormonal intrauterine device (IUD). It is a piece of T-shaped plastic medical device wrapped in copper. It is placed in your uterus and the copper acts as a natural spermicide. Whatever sperm manages to survive (very few and not often do they survive) cannot fertilize an egg because of how the device is placed in your uterus. There are not any harmful side effects like hormonal birth control options except for the very rare chance of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) or the device expelling or perforating the uterus. The amazing benefits of it is no hormones! Because of my anti-epileptic medications hormonal birth control does not work as effectively for me so I needed s

My Birthday Weekend and My First Week Being 26

Let's take this post back to Thursday, 4 May. I woke up early in the morning to finish getting the house ready for Emmy! After getting the house ready I drove the 1.5 hour drive to the airport to pick her up. On the way back we talked quite a bit. After getting back home we hung out at the house and had a super relaxing day. The next day was my birthday!! I was turning 26 so I figured a new year should have a fresh healthy start.  I woke up in the morning and had some coffee on our front porch. After getting some coffee Emmy and I went out to the San Pedro River and decided to do a nice hike. It was beautiful! After the hike we did some yoga and then took a shower and got ready for the day. We went to Wal-Mart to grab a few birthday essentials and I gave Emmy a little tour of Sierra Vista. Later that night Jake made us margaritas and took us to my favorite restaurant so we could get burritos! W
